New York Workers' Compensation Lawyer Adnan Munawar Echoes Call for Lawmakers to Continue Zadroga Act Aid for 9/11 First Responders
New York Workers' Compensation Lawyer Adnan Munawar, of Munawar & Andrews-Santillo, LLP joins in the push for lawmakers to renew the Zadroga Act to continue aid for 9/11 first responders
NEW YORK, Sept. 29, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As the 13th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center approaches, pressure is being put on lawmakers to extend the Zadroga Act, and continue aid to 9/11 first responders New York One reports (Lawmakers Push for Zadroga Act to Continue Care for 9/11 First Responders, September 8, 2014). New York Mayor Bill de Blasio met with a coalition to push for a 25-year extension of the bill, which grants health care and compensation to the first responders and survivors of the 9/11 attacks.
In all, 2,053 people died in the attacks and at least 70 firefighters and 60 police officers have died due to being sickened in the aftermath. Over 30,000 responders and survivors have suffered an illness or injury and nearly 2,900 people have cancer either caused or made worse by toxins. To date, over $1 billion has been spent under the bill, but advocates say people will continue to get sick or will have continuing illnesses and that the "heroes" who answered the emergency call should be taken care of.
"You cannot put a price on the bravery of the men and women who came to the call of duty on that fateful day," said Adnan Munawar, Partner at Munawar & Andrews-Santillo LLP. "Renewing the Zadroga Act is a no-brainer and hopefully our politicians will agree. The mayor and some powerful allies are pushing this to be done, so hopefully that means benefits for those who deserve and need them will continue."
"While providing medical care and compensation for people affected by a terrorist attack is extremely important, it is also an extremely rare occurrence. Most common injuries suffered on-the-job are covered through workers' compensation insurance and there are processes in place for obtaining benefits for those who are injured on the job. Sadly, even for people who suffer genuine injuries while working, these benefits can be routinely denied and if you do not know how the process works or do not have the mayor advocating for you, it is easy to end up without anything at all. Having the right expert by your side who knows how to fight for your rights can make all the difference and maximizes the chances of you getting the benefits you need and deserve. And remember—the consultation is free and you only ever pay a fee if your claim is successful, so there is no reason not to call and find out what to do if you are injured on the job. "
"If you or a loved one has suffered an injury or worse caused by the performance of a job, contact a New York Workers' Compensation lawyer to receive information about the workers' compensation claim process and get your claims started right away."
