New York Personal Injury Lawyer Adnan Munawar, of Munawar & Andrews-Santillo, expresses his condolences for all those directly affected by the fatal gas leak explosion in Harlem
NEW YORK, March 31, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- According to a report from http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/Park-Avenue-116th-Street-Fire-Collapse-Explosion-249730131.html [NBC New York] (NYC Explosion Death Toll at 8, With 3 Still Missing in the Smoldering Rubble, March 14, 2014), a gas leak caused an explosion in upper Manhattan, resulting in the deaths of eight people, over 60 reported injuries, and three missing persons. According to the report, the explosion caused two residential buildings new 116th and Park Avenue to collapse and shattered windows in nearby buildings. According to the report, residents reported feeling the explosion as far away as 150th Street, and smoke traveled through central park. The report states that most of those reported injured were described as suffering from non-life threatening injuries.
According to the report, The New York Fire Department responded with hundreds of firefighters and first responders reporting to the scene to put out the flames and search for victims in the rubble. The report states that authorities were also sealing up nearby windows that had been blown out and expressed that they would be working on the disaster for a long time.
According to the NBC NY report, one of the buildings had work done on its gas piping last June, but the building had no citations. According to the report, in addition to the immediate damage, the explosion sent debris onto the nearby Metro-North train tracks, causing the shutdown of service in both directions until the late afternoon.
"We join the millions of New Yorkers who are in a state of shock and awe right now whose thoughts are with the friends and families of the victims of the explosion," said Adnan Munawar, Partner at Munawar & Andrews-Santillo LLP. "Tragedies of this magnitude do not happen every day, and when they do, it causes us all to pause and reflect. We can only imagine the pain and suffering of all those immediately affected and we hope that all those who were injured recover fully and those who are missing are found safe. We should also thank the firefighters, first responders, and other authorities who are doing their best to secure the scene and rescue as many people as possible. This is truly a sad day for New York."
"Amidst such chaos and destruction, it is easy to be overwhelmed by what happened and to be unsure of what to do next. The difficult and harsh reality is that although victims of these types of accidents have rights under the law, there are also strict time constraints on when victims may exercise their rights. The result is that victims and their loved ones often need to consider taking action before doing so is even on their radar and when the thought of doing anything other than grieving or recovering is simply unimaginable. To make matters more complicated, the further away in time one gets from an accident, the harder it becomes to compile evidence, remember what happened, and piece together the facts. That is why it is truly in any victim's best interest to reach out to a personal injury attorney as soon as possible to find out what to do, and to entrust their claims with an expert so they can focus on their more pressing needs. The right attorney will understand the impact that such a tragedy can have, and will be sympathetic and compassionate towards all those involved. The consultation is free, and you only ever pay a fee if you win, so you can alleviate some of your immediate stress right away without worrying about financial considerations," said Munawar.
If you or a loved one has suffered and injury, medical condition, or worse, as a result of a building accident in New York, you should contact a New York Personal Injury Lawyer today to receive information about the your rights under the law and how to pursue claims for the compensation you deserve.
