Darius Fletcher was a 21-year-old senior at William Patterson University when he and his three friends died when the driver of the car they were riding in reportedly lost control of the vehicle and it skidded past a dead end and down an embankment where it landed in a creek. There was no barrier or guardrail where the car went over the edge and the attorney for the family alleges to have photos from 14 months before the accident showing there was no guardrail then either. The city has since put up two "Dead End" signs and installed heavy concrete barriers, but lawyer contend that had the city maintained the roadway barrier that the vehicle would not have ended up in the water. City officials have declined to comment.
