NEW YORK, Oct. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The New York Post is reporting on a disturbing accident out of Brooklyn (SUV Blows Red Light, Plows into Woman and Child, September 26, 2014). The report claims that the driver of a large SUV went through a red light and then "plowed" into a small child and an elderly woman before driving off and fleeing the scene.
The driver was operating a blue Infiniti SUV while allegedly speeding at the corner of Nostrand Avenue and Kings highway around four in the afternoon. Police say the driver lost control of the vehicle due to driving too fast through a turn, and struck a 2-year-old boy and a 70-year-old woman who were waiting at a bus stop nearby. Both victims were listed in stable condition at the hospital and police are still looking to make an arrest.
"First of all, we would like to express our gratitude that both victims are still alive and are in stable condition," said Adnan Munawar, Partner at Munawar & Andrews-Santillo LLP. "Being struck by a vehicle, especially as a small child or as someone in a more advanced age, can easily result in far worse, and thankfully that did not happen here. I know New Yorkers are notoriously in a rush, but recklessly speeding so that you arrive somewhere on time is not worth the risk it imposes on the lives of others. Thankfully we have a Mayor who is taking this issue seriously and hopefully our citizens will follow suit."
"Unfortunately, accidents will likely always be a part of our reality, and just as we need to do what we can to avoid them, we also need to do what we can to be prepared to face them when they occur. Many people go about their lives assuming they will never have to deal with this type of situation, so when it does happen, they are usually at a loss. Protecting your rights is not as difficult as it may seem, and you can start doing it right away by picking up the phone and speaking with an experienced expert. You never have to pay for a consultation, and you only ever pay anything at all if your claim is successful, so if you are ever in an accident, there truly is no reason not to contact an attorney and find out what you can do immediately."
