NEW YORK, Sept. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Children from Madison Square Boys & Girls Club were treated to a special double-header yesterday as they cheered on adult volunteers and staff at the NESTLE NESQUIK WIFFLE Ball tournament, and then stayed to enjoy the Mets vs. Marlins game at Citi Field alongside baseball legends Edgardo Alfonzo and Bud Harrelson. The former Mets players stepped forward as 'celebrity coaches' for the final game of the Tournament, which concluded with the winning team comprised of FDNY Hispanic Society and Urban Health Plan volunteers. Other teams were comprised of volunteers from Madison Square Boys & Girls Club, Hispanics in Philanthropy, Committee for Hispanic Children and Families, Children's Aid Society, Mets Superfans and the Mets Police.

"The children enjoyed a memorable day here at Citi Field and with the support from NESQUIK, Madison Square Boys & Girls Club can now provide more play equipment," explained Edgardo Alfonzo. "It's important that our community supports healthy active play and fun after school activities for our youth, and the donation by NESQUIK of sports equipment and funds makes this possible."
During the seventh inning stretch of the Mets vs. Marlins game the spotlight shone on Bronx native Huchella DelaCruz, a talented 12-year old member of Madison Square Boys & Girls Club, as she sang God Bless America. The youth selected to attend the events yesterday were winning team members from an internal WIFFLE Ball playoff hosted by the Madison Square Boys & Girls Club in July.
The tournament was organized and sponsored by NESQUIK to support the Madison Square Boys & Girls Club and to build awareness for easy ways youth and families can introduce active and fun play into their daily routine and teach the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle.
