New York Film Festival Selects RealD 3D To Present Robert Zemeckis' "The Walk" From TriStar Pictures
DURING WORLD PREMIERE AND OPENING NIGHT OF 53rd ANNUAL FESTIVITIES
NEW YORK, Sept. 15, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Robert Zemeckis' The Walk will make its World Premiere in RealD 3D as the Opening Night selection of the upcoming 53rd New York Film Festival (September 25 – October 11), it was announced today by Anthony Marcoly, President of Worldwide Cinema for RealD.
The World Premiere of this highly-anticipated drama will be showcased for festival ticket holders using a specially installed RealD projection system. The world's most widely used 3D cinema technology, RealD 3D is installed in more than 27,000 auditoriums by approximately 1,200 exhibitors in 72 countries around the world.
The Walk is the second 3D feature to open the NYFF, after Ang Lee's Life of Pi in 2012, and also marks Zemeckis' return to the festival three years after Flight screened on Closing Night in 2012.
Said Marcoly, "We could not be more excited or proud to present the World Premiere of The Walk in RealD 3D. Robert Zemeckis is one of the greatest and most technically accomplished film directors of all time. His latest film is a riveting love letter to the City of New York and an extraordinary celebration of and tribute to the Twin Towers of the Trade Center. This is event filmmaking at its finest and we know this experience will be brilliantly enhanced when viewed in 3D."
Added Zemeckis, "The Walk is a quintessential New York story, so I am delighted to be sharing the film in 3D with New York audiences first."
The New York Film Festival highlights the best in world cinema, featuring top films from celebrated filmmakers as well as fresh new talent.
About "The Walk"
Twelve people have walked on the moon. Only one has ever, or will ever, walk in the immense void between the World Trade Center towers. Philippe Petit (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), guided by his real-life mentor, Papa Rudy (Ben Kingsley), is aided by an unlikely band of international recruits, who overcome long odds, betrayals, dissension and countless close calls to conceive and execute their mad plan. Robert Zemeckis, the master director of such marvels as Forrest Gump, Cast Away, Back to the Future, Polar Express and Flight, again uses cutting edge technology in the service of an emotional, character-driven story. The Walk is genuine big-screen cinema, a chance for moviegoers to viscerally experience the feeling of reaching the clouds. It is also one of the rare live-action films that is a PG-rated, all-audience entertainment for moviegoers 8 to 80 – and a triumphant true story to boot. It is unlike anything audiences have seen before, a love letter to Paris and New York City in the 1970s, but most of all, to the towers of the World Trade Center. Directed by Robert Zemeckis. Produced by Steve Starkey, Robert Zemeckis, and Jack Rapke. The Screenplay is by Robert Zemeckis & Christopher Browne, based on the book "To Reach the Clouds" by Philippe Petit.
