New York Construction Accident Lawyer Adnan Munawar Comments on Window Washing Accident at One World Trade Center
New York Construction Accident Lawyer Adnan Munawar, of Munawar & Andrews-Santillo, issued a statement after window washing scaffolding breaks, leaving workers stranded at One World Trade Center
NEW YORK, Dec. 2, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- New York City Fire Fighters made a daring rescue after window washers at One World Trade Center were left dangling 68 floors in the air, RT is reporting. (Window Washers Dangle From One World Trade Center Before Being Rescued, November 13, 2014). The accident happened around 12:45 in the afternoon when the window washers had completed their jobs and were headed back to the top of the 104-floor building. Before they reached the top, something went wrong with the motor operating the scaffolding and a cable came loose, causing the entire platform to tilt sideways. Firefighters were able to cut through the glass next to the workers and pull the men to safety. The workers were treated for minor injuries and released.
Tractel, the company that built the scaffolding declined to comment on the incident, but Upgrade Services, issued a statement, blaming the incident on "equipment failure of the traction hoist brake mechanism that supports one side of the rig." The company lauded its safety and training and credited it for helping the workers keep calm and safe while they awaited rescue. RT did not yet have the results of any official reports.
"We are elated to hear that these workers escaped what could have been a fatal injury with only minor injuries," said Adnan Munawar, Partner at Munawar & Andrews-Santillo LLP. "I cannot speak to the mental stress these men might be under, but at least they came out with their lives in tact. We also should express our thanks to the brave men and women of the FDNY who rescued these workers and brought them to safety. Hopefully this story will shed light for the general public on just how dangerous certain jobs are. There is a reason why safety rules for certain industries are strict, and we as a society must continue to insist on the protection of our workers."
"Unfortunately, even with proper diligence, accidents like these happen all too often, and it is essential that workers know how to protect themselves. Construction injuries can be serious, even deadly, and knowing where to turn for help can mean the difference between getting the compensation you need and deserve, and being left injured and empty handed. The right expert will know how to navigate the complicated claims process and stand up against the insurance companies who will try to minimize your claims. An attorney will work with experts to prove what caused your injury and hold the right parties accountable, getting you the compensation that will allow you to heal in peace. And remember, consulting with a personal injury attorney is free, and you only pay a fee if you win, so you know you have someone on your side that you truly can afford."
