New York City Team Handball Club Together with the IHF and USATH Organize the First Super Globe Qualifying Event for the North American and Caribbean Region
NEW YORK, May 1, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- The International Handball Federation (IHF) in a partnership with USA Team Handball, Lake Placid Olympic Training Center, and The World's Handball Club for the first time will organize the Super Globe qualifying event for the North American and Caribbean region.
The event will be held from May 9-12 in Lake Placid, New York, two-time Olympic host.
The Super Globe is a global competition between the champion clubs from continental handball confederations. This year it will be held in Saudi Arabia from Aug 26, 2019 to Sep 1, 2019.
This would be the first time a club from the North American and Caribbean region will participate at the Super Globe tournament.
Hassan Moustafa, the president of the IHF said: "Lake Placid is truly a place where sports history has been made and therefore, it is just fitting to organize the historic qualification for the IHF Super Globe in this town. Twice, the Winter Olympic Games have been held there – and who doesn't remember the 'Miracle on Ice'. When I think about Lake Placid, I see dreams coming true and the seemingly impossible made possible. At the Super Globe, the team from North America and the Caribbean might be considered as the underdogs, the debutants – but no one should underestimate them as everything is possible."
Mike Cavanaugh, the Operations Director for USATH said: "As organizers of the event we want to provide the best conditions for athletes and allow them to compete at the highest level. I am sure that we will see some great quality games at Lake Placid Olympic Training Center."
Shkumbin Mustafa, the president of The World's Handball Club (New York City THC) said: "Every athlete has a dream to compete against the best in the world. This historic event in Lake Placid Olympic Training Center is a great opportunity for the participating athletes to make this dream a reality. To be the first club from the NorCa region to participate in Super Globe is a great motivator for all people involved."
