NEW YORK, Oct. 23, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Michelin today released the list of Bib Gourmand restaurants in New York City, found in its 13th edition of the famed restaurant guide.
A Bib Gourmand designation, reserved for a select number of restaurants rated by Michelin's team of anonymous food inspectors, denotes establishments where diners can enjoy a great meal for a good value. In New York, these restaurants are as diverse as the neighborhoods where they are found.
"Michelin inspectors have been eating their way around New York's five boroughs for more than 13 years and every year they are inspired by the inventiveness and imagination of the city's chefs," said Michael Ellis, international director of the MICHELIN Guide. "From Flushing to the Bronx, the Bib Gourmand restaurants represent 127 establishments where diners can enjoy quality ingredients, quality cooking and fair prices."
The New York Bib Gourmand selection features an influx of divine Mexican restaurants, a trend observed by Michelin's team across the country in the 2018 editions of the Guide. Nestled in the Bronx are two such standouts: El Molcajete and Patron. At the former, tacos become vessels of thrilling flavor and the mole is spot-on. At Patron, a kitchen team driven by heart and passion rewards diners with an authenticity rarely found. Atla is the brainchild of Enrique Olvera (Cosme) and serves contemporary Mexican cuisine with chef Daniela Soto-Innes at the helm. In Brooklyn, Alta Calidad chef Akhtar Nawab fills his menu with creative, revived, modern and yet fully Mexican dishes.
Elsewhere in Brooklyn, 21 Greenpoint is a newcomer to the list managed by a team of experienced chefs; Bunker retains its designation despite moving to a new location in Bushwick; Miss Ada confidently serves up a unique, personal take on gracious, splendid Middle Eastern cuisine.
Across Manhattan Michelin's famously anonymous inspectors uncovered gems such as Antonin Brune and Mario Carta's Moroccan inspired ChouCho and Hao Noodle and Tea, a contemporary Chinese restaurant from Zhu Rong. The inspectors also highly recommend Norma Gastonomia Siciliana for an unforgettable and authentic Sicilian experience and Luzzo's for real Neapolitan pizza from a coal burning oven. Tfor is an under-the-radar newcomer with fish flown to the West Village from the Mediterranean.
Don't miss the hundreds of impressive dumplings at the aptly named Dumpling Galaxy or Andy Ricker's extremely popular Pok Pok Ny, a returning favorite of Michelin inspectors.
The 14 new restaurants spotlighted in this edition help round out a list of more than 120 restaurants where it is possible to enjoy two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less (tax and gratuity not included).
The 2018 Michelin-starred restaurants for New York City will be released on Mon., Oct. 30 and the Guide will go on sale at major book retailers starting Nov. 2, 2017, for a suggested retail price of $18.99.
