New York City Companies Encouraging Employees to Veg Out with Katchkie Farm CSA
2013 Farm-to-Cubicle Registration Starts Now
First Produce Delivery June 11
NEW YORK, March 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- When is vegging out in the workplace encouraged? When your New York City company is enrolled in Katchkie Farm's Workplace CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). Katchkie Farm, a 60-acre organic farm in Kinderhook, NY, offers weekly produce deliveries directly to New York City companies that enroll a minimum of 20 employees in the farm-to-cubicle program.
Each week in the 22-week season Katchkie drops off boxes containing a generous quantity of seasonal vegetables. The cost of owning a share for the full 22-week season is $580; 11-week half-shares are also available for $290. Registration for the 2013 season begins now, with the first produce delivery scheduled for June 11.
Employees at participating companies, which last year included the likes of Teach For America, the Mayor's Community Affairs Unit, and Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, can expect a wide range of produce over the course of the growing season, from peas and asparagus in the spring, to tomatoes and corn in summer, and squash and kale in the fall.
"Our Workplace CSA program is a great way for busy workers to get a steady supply of seasonal vegetables. The employers benefit, too: a healthier employee is a happier one," noted Liz Neumark the CEO of Great Performances, Zagat's top-rated NYC caterer and the owner of Katchkie Farm.
What's more, some companies have noticed other changes: "Like the company softball team, we've found that the workplace CSA program has been fun, and a source of camaraderie amongst employees at participating companies. There's also been a fair amount of friendly competition about who can cook the best dishes with that week's delivery," observed Amy Black, CSA Coordinator at Katchkie Farm.
