New York Business Women Mentor Teen Girls in Entrepreneurship at Girls Going Places® Conference
Girls Going Places® Returns to New York to Inspire Next Generation of Business Professionals
NEW YORK, Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 100 teen girls, ages 12 through 18, from New York City area schools will attend the Girls Going Places® Entrepreneurship Conference on October 8, presented by The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America (Guardian), New York, N.Y. in partnership with Wealth Advisory Group LLC.
During the event, 25 New York business women will mentor teen girls about entrepreneurship and financial independence, using the conference as a platform to inspire and encourage young women to pursue their own entrepreneurial endeavors. The conference will be held at Hunter College of The City University of New York, in the Faculty Dining Room located at their 68th Street Campus (695 Park Avenue, New York, NY) on Friday, October 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
"At Guardian, we have a longstanding commitment to supporting women business owners, who represent one of the fastest growing segments of the economy," said Kathy Readinger, national manager, Girls Going Places® Program, Guardian. "Girls Going Places is designed to open teen girls' eyes to the potential of entrepreneurial career paths and we are excited to return to New York for the second time to continue promoting the benefits of business ownership."
According to Guardian's recent survey of the 2010 Girls Going Places® Award Program applicants, three out of four girls participating in the program plan to pursue business ownership as a career, and more than half of the award applicants say they are driven to run their own business by the desire to be independent.
"This conference allows business women of all ages to collaborate and share ideas," said Howard J. Elias, Chairman and CEO of the New York based Wealth Advisory Group, LLC. "We are proud to host these young women and showcase their talent to the community. This is a great opportunity for girls to learn the true value of business ownership."
During the interactive conference, local business women will guide the girls through various activities such as "Hot Company®," an entrepreneurial board game that introduces girls to the advantages and challenges of owning one's own business. They will also team up for an exercise called "Product-in-a-Box®," in which they will have the opportunity to design a product and present a marketing plan. The mentors will share their experiences as successful women in business. This year's conference is being managed by Amy Salo, Vice President, Wealth Advisory Group, LLC.
Since 1999, Guardian has hosted 80 Girls Going Places® Entrepreneurship Conferences across the country. Created eleven years ago as part of Guardian's Women's Initiative, the national Girls Going Places® Entrepreneurship Program annually awards $30,000 in cash prizes to 15 teen girls who demonstrate outstanding entrepreneurial abilities and service in the community.
