A 90-foot long boat named Specialist was escorting a crane from Albany to Jersey City when it crashed into a stationary construction barge in the Hudson River where the new Tappan Zee Bridge is being built. The barge had three men on board, two of whom have been found dead, and one of whom remains missing. 29-year-old Timothy Conklin's body was found in the vessel, and 62-year-old Paul Amon was also killed. 56-year-old Harry Hernandez remains missing.

According to the report there was a previous accident at the same location in 2013 that killed a bride-to-be and a best man two weeks before the wedding. The victims' families in that crash alleged that the barge was not visible at the time due to inadequate lighting. Now, similar questions are arising as to whether or not the barge was sufficiently lit. For his part, Governor Cuomo has stated that the barge was lit and that radio transmissions showed that the men saw the barge but had driven too close. Cuomo also stated that 21 men had been working at the site, but none were injured.
