New Year: New Orbis
BvD starts 2013 by developing its international company solution
LONDON, January 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
Bureau van Dijk (BvD), one of the world's leading publishers of business information, has released an enhanced version of its company database Orbis. Orbis has information on over 100 million companies across the globe and is published with input from over 100 information providers. Enhancements include the addition of CICI numbers as part of BvD's commitment to the LEI project, new financial strength models, access to a larger range of original documents plus developments for BvD's customers in various vertical research roles.

The CICI number, published by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), is considered to be the likely forerunner of the upcoming Legal Entity Identifiers (LEI). Orbis includes over 11,000 CICI numbers linked to companies, and BvD is adding more as they are published. "Much interest surrounds the LEI project and we're committed to being at the forefront of its provision," said Louise Green, BvD's group marketing director, "We're liaising with relevant parties, and our customers, to make sure we're proactive as the project develops."
Orbis is also benefitting from two new measures of financial strength, taking its number of bespoke models to six. New models are being provided by World'Vest Base and Trucost. The Trucost Environmental Risk Metric assesses revenue at risk from direct and supply chain natural resource liabilities such as carbon, water, natural resources, pollutants and waste. "Our financial strength module now provides six different views on a company's financial position. Each model has been optimised to work with the Orbis financial reports and offers a different perspective. It's very popular with our users, many of whom integrate the various scores into their own models and scoring systems," Green continued.
A new agreement with GBRDirect now gives users access to an additional range of original documents. Its Global Business Register (GBR) provides direct, electronic access to official companies' registration offices around the world, in real time so users can be confident they're accessing the latest reports. The GBR currently covers 26 European countries and 46 US states and will include 70 further registries within the next 12 months. "Accessing original documents is increasingly important for our users in compliance and due diligence roles - this new agreement significantly increases the scope of reports available to our users," said Green.
BvD is continuing to develop its range of Catalysts - software interfaces that integrate Orbis data into 'task orientated platforms'. Each Catalyst is bespoke; they vary according to the required functionality. BvD now has Catalysts for transfer pricing, company valuations, credit analysis, procurement/supply chain analysis and compliance/client on-boarding. Green concluded, "Designed for the task in hand, our Catalysts speed up the research process to help each user be more efficient. They pull the relevant information from Orbis, combine it with other relevant data, in a 'vertical specific environment'. Users love the practical and specific approach to their research needs. We have plans to develop more Catalysts during 2013."
