New World Home Brings First LEED® Platinum Factory-Built Home to Long Island
East Hampton Home Reflects Market Desire for Cost-Effective, Sustainable Living
EAST HAMPTON, N.Y., Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- New World Home, a rapidly growing and award-winning producer of sustainable housing, has earned Platinum certification under the U.S. Green Building Council's (USGBC) LEED® for Homes program for a home built in East Hampton, NY, representing the first factory-built home in Long Island to earn this designation. Additionally, the Hamptons project is the first home of any type in Long Island to earn a Platinum rating without requiring the use of any renewable energy sources, such as solar panels, wind turbines or geothermal systems. In 2009, New World Home produced the first factory-built LEED® Platinum homes in New York and Georgia.
The financial benefits to building a New World Home are particularly relevant to the Long Island housing market, specifically the Hamptons, where it is extremely expensive to build a new home. "Taking into account the high cost of land and labor, many would perceive building one of the greenest homes in the country in this setting to be cost-prohibitive," says Tyler Schmetterer, CMO and Founder of New World Home. "It is a fundamental objective for New World Home to develop a housing solution with minimal up-front premium for green products and features. Currently, we're able to build at a cost competitive range of $180 to $250 per square foot versus $400 to $500 for a comparable quality site-built home in the Hamptons."
New World Home, which recently won the 2010 National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Green Project of the Year, is providing a platform for brand name household products to showcase their green products and messaging. Every product is selected to achieve the maximum benefit for the homeowner. "We carefully research each product based on individual performance measures and how they interrelate within the entire housing system. These products are then integrated into our whole-systems approach to homebuilding to maximize home performance and minimize environmental impact," says Mr. Schmetterer.
More and more homebuyers are recognizing the value of living in a sustainable home. "Homeowners now have the opportunity to reduce their energy consumption by more than 50 percent, save thousands of gallons per year in water consumption, live in a superior and healthier indoor air environment and save thousands of dollars per year in operating and maintenance costs," says Mark Jupiter, President, R&D and Founder of New World Home. "Our homes, while maintaining a charming, historic aesthetic, are able to achieve the highest levels of certification by utilizing a proprietary whole-systems approach to home construction. Well thought out design, a strong project team, world class brand partners and various construction techniques are all integral to building homes to the highest green standards," says Mr. Jupiter.
New World Home's trademarked New Old Green Modular® (NOGM®) design platform incorporates a holistic approach to historically-inspired green building. The NOGM process, which typically results in homes built to exacting standards in 120 days from the start of production, possess a number of base features deeming them among the most sustainable on the market today.
