New Website Helps California Stay Golden
EnergyUpgradeCA.org is a one-stop resource for energy management solutions
SACRAMENTO, Calif., Oct. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Energy Upgrade California® launched a new website today, providing an in-depth, online resource for Californians looking for effective steps to better manage energy use, save money, and keep their homes and businesses comfortable.
"The Governor and leaders throughout the state have called on Californians to better manage their energy use to help us meet our state's energy and carbon pollution reduction goals," said President Michael R. Peevey of the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), which created the Energy Upgrade California program. "To assist Californians in this effort we have launched EnergyUpgradeCA.org, a comprehensive website that provides a central, interactive resource of information, tools, programs, services, and advice for Californians to take action to better manage their energy use."
The new website provides the state's residents and small businesses owners with comprehensive information and education on California's energy and climate change policies, the importance of renewable energy sources, as well as information on how to manage energy use and take advantage of energy efficiency programs available from their utilities or local governments. The unique tools the website provides to customers and small businesses includes:
- Information on how to contact their utility for a free home energy audit;
- A searchable database of rebates and incentives offered by local utilities and government agencies for energy upgrades and new, efficient products and appliances;
- Personalized action plans to help users keep track of energy management actions they can take to reduce their energy use and save money in their homes and businesses; and,
- A database of licensed contractors available to perform energy efficiency home upgrades, and the ability to review the contractors and develop customized lists of those who can provide specific upgrade services at homes and/or businesses.
In addition to the tools and tips available, the new website features a number of entertaining and educational games and quizzes that will allow Californians to test their knowledge of energy management policies and practices.
"The new website is a central resource for more information about the actions we all can take to help meet the state's vision for our energy future," said California Energy Commissioner Andrew McAllister, who is the Commission's policy lead for energy efficiency. "The resources and information available on the site can assist Californians to better manage everyday choices and behaviors in their homes and businesses."

Energy Upgrade California® is a state initiative to help Californians take action to save energy and conserve natural resources, help reduce demand on the electricity grid, and make informed energy management choices at home and at work. It is supported by an alliance of the California Public Utilities Commission, the California Energy Commission, utilities, regional energy networks, local governments, businesses, and nonprofits to help communities meet state and local energy and climate action goals. Funding comes from investor-owned utility customers under the auspices of the California Public Utilities Commission.
