New Walsh College Military Grant Covers All Undergraduate Tuition and Provides Low Cost Graduate Tuition
TROY, Mich., July 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Walsh College has approved the sponsoring of a new military grant available to all active duty or reserve members of the U.S. armed forces, which will cover all undergraduate tuition costs, and a significant portion of graduate costs, when used with Military Tuition Assistance.
The Military Grant Program will provide $138 per credit hour, with no annual or semester caps. After combining the grant with the Military Tuition Assistance (which covers $250 a credit hour), bachelor's seeking students will only be responsible for the registration fee and books; master's seeking students will be responsible for their remaining tuition, the registration fee and books. If an active duty member of the armed forces is not eligible for Military Tuition Assistance, he or she is still eligible for the new grant.
Walsh College also waives the application fee for all veterans and current military service members who apply for bachelor's, master's or non-degree programs.
"This new grant will substantially help veterans pursue their higher educational goals at an affordable rate," says Kara Fields, assistant director, records and registration, and veterans' representative at Walsh. "It is a way Walsh can thank our service members by trying to make education affordable as they serve, while maximizing the use of both military and veteran education benefits."
During the June 2013 Walsh College Commencement, 14 veterans who had served in the United States Armed Forces graduated. Red, white and blue military honor cords were offered as part of the academic regalia for veteran's service in the U.S. Armed Forces. The cords were offered by Walsh as a small symbol of the College's appreciation for their service.
Walsh College provides a knowledgeable and friendly Veteran Services staff that help veterans learn more about their educational benefits and by offering career counseling.
Walsh College also has a Student Veteran Organization, and hosts a Veteran Room that is open one evening a week each semester. The Veteran Room, designed by Walsh veteran students and alumni, is open to veterans, service members, and their families/friends to study, network, and relax.
