The ability of the Open Country R/T to tackle dirt, sand, and rocks is inspired by Toyo's legendary Open Country M/T® maximum traction tire, while its quieter ride is a nod to the brand's best-selling tire, the Open Country A/T II all-terrain.
"Our market research revealed many truck, Jeep and SUV owners are looking for a combination of performance and features not available in current mud-terrain or all-terrain tires," said Roy Bromfield, chief operating officer, Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp. "What these owners really want is the Toyo Open Country R/T - a premium tire that handles exceptionally well off-road and looks aggressive, but is also quiet and long-lasting enough for everyday driving."
The Open Country R/T is backed with a class-leading 45,000-mile treadwear warranty and the Toyo Tires No Regrets® 45-Day/500-Mile Trial Offer.*
It is also 100-percent American-made, with all sizes built at the state-of-the-art Toyo Tires factory in White, Georgia. This fully-automated manufacturing process together with advanced tire construction yields the high uniformity, excellent balance and durability that dealers and owners have come to know from Toyo Tires.
High turn-up, three-ply polyester casing strengthens the tire for excellent handling, durability and tread life, while maintaining the proper load capacity that is so important to these owners. The Open Country R/T also features two spiral cap plies, contributing to high speed endurance and uniformity.
Additional features contributing to its durability and off-road performance include wide shoulder grooves, mud biting blocks and stone and mud ejectors. In addition to resisting impact, the durable sidewall compound is molded into two distinct designs so owners can customize their look.
On-road comfort and longer tire life come from features inside and out including special tread compound, an optimized pattern arrangement and interlocking tread blocks.
Eight initial launch sizes range from 17- to 20-inches in wheel diameter. The company plans to release additional sizes in early 2015.
