New Survey Reveals The Impact Holiday Cravings Have On Americans
Quest Nutrition introduces limited edition seasonal protein bars & cookies to help people feed their cravings while staying true to their health goals
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 9, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- With the holidays comes a plethora of delicious cookies, pies, and sweets and the associated excess of carbs and sugar. According to new research conducted by OnePoll on behalf of Quest Nutrition, 87 percent of Americans experience increased food cravings during the holiday season and 75 percent experience guilt after giving into their cravings. This year, Quest is disrupting the holiday season with four new products that allow consumers to enjoy these holiday flavors without sacrificing their health.
"One of the reasons people love the holiday season so much is because of the indulgent, delectable food that comes along with it," said Suzanne Ginestro, Chief Marketing Officer at Quest Nutrition. "But people don't love that those seasonal treats, like cookies and pies, are packed with carbs and sugar. The survey found that 64 percent of Americans wish there were healthier food options to enjoy at holiday parties, and that's what Quest provides through offerings that satisfy your cravings while remaining true to Quest's metabolic promise of low net carb, high protein and low sugar foods."
The new study of 2,000 Americans found that 81 percent consider themselves to be health-conscious eaters, but despite their best intentions, all that goes out the window when the holidays approach. In fact, 97 percent of Americans admit to giving into their cravings during the festive season.
The research also found:
- 46 percent of Americans said that their willpower to resist cravings is lowest during the holiday season.
- Three in four Americans experience remorse after giving into their cravings, and more than half (58 percent) say those feeling of regret dampen their holiday spirit
- The most tempting holiday foods are chocolate chip cookies (44 percent), followed by pumpkin pie (41 percent) and mashed potatoes (39 percent). Also high on the list are Snickerdoodle cookies (24 percent) and Gingerbread cookies (19 percent).
Knowing that life's better when people can feed their cravings – especially during the most festive time of year – Quest Nutrition is introducing three indulgent, limited edition seasonal flavors that provide complete protein, low net carbs and low sugar:
- Pumpkin Pie protein bars have a delicious pumpkin base mixed with warm spices to satisfy cravings like a warm piece of pumpkin pie. Each bar has 21 grams of protein, 12 grams of fiber, less than one gram of sugar and just four grams of net carbs. In contrast, one slice of a leading brands' pumpkin pie has a whopping 53 gram of net carbs, 31 grams of sugar and only six grams of protein*.
- Peppermint Bark protein bars have two layers to achieve this holiday favorite. The soft chocolatey layer and additional minty layer are covered with a minty, white chocolatey coating that melts in your mouth. Each bar has 21 grams of protein, 14 grams of fiber, less than one gram of sugar and just four grams of net carbs.
- Gingerbread protein cookies are soft, chewy and contain a perfect combination of ginger and other delicious spices. Each cookie has 15 grams of protein, 11 grams of fiber, less than one gram of sugar and just four grams of net carbs.
In addition to the new seasonal items, Quest Nutrition is introducing a Snickerdoodle protein cookie that will be available year round.
- Snickerdoodle protein cookies can also be considered a holiday flavor favorite and this cookie – which features 15 grams of protein, 11 grams of fiber, less than one gram of sugar and just four grams of net carbs – is here to stay.
These new bar and cookie flavor extensions join Quest Nutrition's product offerings, which also include the recently launched, and category-disrupting, Quest Tortilla Style Protein Chips and Quest Thin Crust Pizza. The new Pumpkin Pie protein bar, Peppermint Bark protein bar, Gingerbread protein cookie and Snickerdoodle protein cookie are available at Amazon, Vitamin Shoppe, Hy-Vee, Giant Eagle, Wegmans, your local nutrition stores and at www.questnutrition.com.
