New Study Presents Key Elements that go into High Impact Strategic Briefings for Pharmaceutical Company Leadership
CHAPEL HILL, N.C., May 8, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Informing senior leadership about strategic opportunities and challenges in the marketplace is an important role for the market research and competitive intelligence functions within the pharmaceutical industry. To be effective, those involved with making strategic presentations to company leadership need to develop executive briefing templates that are clear, concise and impactful.
But what presentation elements will resonate and inform leaders the most, and what design elements will streamline presentations rather than cloud conclusions? To provide a current perspective on what works best for leadership briefings, research and consulting leader Best Practices LLC conducted a primary research project during the first quarter of 2015 to probe the critical elements that go into a successful executive briefing.
The research study produced "Developing High-Impact Communication Forms to Brief Senior Leaders: Optimizing Competitive Assessment & Data Disclosure Summaries." The report highlights the critical elements and the best formats for two types of important healthcare briefing templates: 1) the Competitive Landscape Summary Map and 2) the Development Landscape Profile Map – often described as the Data Disclosure or Clinical Trials Progress Summary.
The goals of this study were to:
- Distill best practices for crafting high-impact competitive & clinical development landscape assessments
- Spotlight effective processes and reporting structure for delivering assessment to senior leaders
The study found that very concise executive briefs work best for presenting market landscape summaries to different leadership groups. More than half of respondents use five pages or fewer for presentations to all groups. Competitive assessments to investor relations groups are often the most concise presentation type, while those to executive committees may run longer.
Leaders who are responsible for creating and distributing high-impact assessments can use this study to improve their presentations to executives.
For Competitive & Clinical Landscape Assessment Templates, the research illustrates:
- Length of Templates Used While Presenting to Different Leadership Groups
- Important Elements of Competitive Assessment Landscape Templates
- Design Elements Used In Creating Landscape Templates
The study's data is based on 30 survey responses from leaders at 27 leading pharmaceutical and biotech organizations. Deep-dive interviews also were conducted with senior biopharma leaders with experience with boards of directors and C-Level offices.
