DURHAM, N.C., June 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Last month, Spoonflower released a very special video titled Find Your Sound [http://www.spoonflower.com/videos] following 2015 World Beatboxing Champion, Kaila Mullady, in her journey to redecorate her drab apartment using only custom fabric, wallpaper and gift wrap from Spoonflower. The 2-minute music video shows Mullady sewing pillows, hanging wallpaper, framing prints, and finally basking in a colorful space that reflects her personal style, all within a soundscape completely created by her mouth.
The production team at Myriad Media [http://myriadmedia.net/project/spoonflower] got to work producing the video with Mullady and Spoonflower's VP of Marketing, Sarah Ward, in late April. Bright colors and designs motivated original sound effects––such as animals and robots––and the majority of the sound was created by Mullady's voice.
"We went into the studio with Kaila on a Monday and had her freestyle beatbox for about an hour. We gave her pictures of the fabrics we'd be using and had her do sound effects for them. For instance, where she saw elephants, she did a mouth horn that mimicked the sound of elephants. We all laughed hysterically when she did 'Baby dinosaurs,'" shared Myriad Media. Mullady's vocals were then visually matched with mechanical processes in the Spoonflower factory, such as her metronome sound effect synced up with printheads shifting back and forth like typewriter heads.
"She [Mullady] came up with bits of melody and lyrics, such as "change up the whole game" and "color it up," which became the backbone of the music score for the video," said Myriad Media.
