New S'mores Brownies From Marco's Pizza Get Thumbs Up
Girl Scout & Brownie Troops in Cleveland First to Try New Product
TOLEDO, Ohio, June 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Summer is the season for S'mores, and Marco's® Pizza is introducing its own twist on this popular campfire treat with the introduction of a S'mores Brownie, along with a Double Chocolate Brownie. Before the general public could order the new desserts, Marco's invited Girl Scout Daisies, Brownies, Juniors and Cadettes to stores in Cleveland to taste test them – a fitting approach since the origins of S'mores is credited to the Girl Scouts, with the first mention of the treat appearing in a Girl Scout Handbook in 1927. The troops enjoyed the S'mores, both making and eating them, which was validation for Marco's Senior Director of Menu and Culinary, Darren Gray.
Gray set out to create two new desserts that live up to the same high culinary standards as its pizza. Marco's S'mores Brownie and Double Chocolate Brownie are made with Ghirardelli® chocolate chips, cocoa powder and sauce, creating a decadent flavor profile that elevates these classic desserts, while keeping all the ooey-gooey fun kids and adults love. Just like the campfire treat, Marco's S'mores Brownie is topped with toasted marshmallows, graham cracker sprinkle and a drizzle of Ghirardelli chocolate sauce. The Double Chocolate Brownie is made with Ghirardelli chocolate chips and drizzled with Ghirardelli® chocolate sauce. Both desserts are being introduced this month.
"Brownies and S'mores are both classic favorites, with S'mores being a big flavor trend for summer," said Gray. "The thought was blending the two together would create the perfect union. And using premium Ghirardelli chocolate makes our new brownies extra rich and delicious."
The Girl Scout event, along with generating valuable insight about the flavor profile of Marco's new S'mores Brownie, provided an opportunity for Marco's to give back as part of its Slice of the Community program. Marco's presented the Girl Scouts of North East Ohio with a check for $500 to support the organization's camping programs.
