CHATSWORTH, Calif., Jan. 18, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- SANYO North America Corporation, a subsidiary of SANYO Electric Co., Ltd., one of the world's largest manufacturers of LCD and DLP projectors, announced today the introduction of an ultra compact and portable XGA projector with high brightness and very low power consumption. The PLC-XU4000 delivers an impressive high brightness of 4000 lumens in an easily transportable chassis that weighs just seven pounds. Through SANYO's newly developed intelligent lamp control system, the 1024x768 resolution XGA projector achieves a contrast ratio of 2000:1, with power consumption reduced up to 69% in comparison to conventional models. The PLC-XU4000 is scheduled for availability in January 2011, at an MSRP of just $1,545.99.

By expanding the range of lamp control through newly developed technology, SANYO has enabled low-power operation and extended bulb life while retaining very high image quality. The lamp control range has been greatly expanded, from about 30% to 70%, and the new system operates by analyzing the video signal and automatically adjusting lamp brightness according to image requirements.
When the lamp control reduces light output in response to image changes, it is possible for shifts in color to occur in the projected image. To correct for this, SANYO's new color shift correction technology compensates for any deviations in real time, ensuring color accuracy at all brightness levels. The use of these technologies enables the projector to combine low power consumption with a high contrast ratio.
"The PLC-XU4000 provides a high level of performance in a package that combines great portability with highly efficient 'green' operation. Whether the projector is moved from classroom to classroom in an educational facility or taken on the road for business, its size makes it a highly flexible presentation tool," stated Sam Malik, Vice President and General Manager of the Presentation Technologies Group in SANYO North America's Consumer Solutions Division. "Our new, highly advanced lamp control technology produces higher picture quality that maintains brightness and color accuracy with lower power consumption, extending lamp life up to 5000 hours."
For first-time and occasional users, setup is made easy through a set of on-screen user instructions and an automatic vertical keystone correction, which detects the projector's setup angle and automatically applies the proper keystone correction. In operation, the projector's automatic input signal search detects the presence of input signals and correctly configures the projector for display of the source format.
Microphone input is provided for presenters with playback over a built-in speaker that is driven by a 10-watt amplifier. The speaker can also be used for externally sourced audio. Network control is available through an RJ45 LAN connection and SANYO's PJ-Network software, which is provided with the projector. The system provides PC management for input switching, powering on and off, determining operating time, and is also able to email operating status notifications to up to ten email addresses.
The range of video inputs includes a D-sub 15 pin RGB Component input and a second D-sub 15 pin RGB input that also functions as a video output, as well as single S-Video and RCA Composite inputs. For audio, dual stereo mini jack audio inputs, with one doubling as the microphone input are available, along with a stereo pair of RCA jacks and a stereo mini jack output. Control inputs include an RJ45 connector for wired LAN Network control, and a D-sub9 connector for RS232C.
SANYO's three-layer filter system is utilized in two locations in the projector for maximum efficiency. These long-life filters use three different media in sequence, with decreasing filter size providing greater effectiveness. The system operates up to 5500 hours between filter changes, reducing both operational costs and maintenance time. The PLC-XU4000 is covered by a three year parts and labor warranty.
