New Repower America Ad: Time to Stop Buying a Disaster

As estimates of oil spilling in the Gulf of Mexico increase, ad makes the case for a transition to clean, renewable energy

WASHINGTON, May 14 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- With the largest environmental disaster in U.S. history unfolding before us in the Gulf of Mexico, the Alliance for Climate Protection is releasing a new ad illustrating how the Deepwater Oil Disaster is a deafening wakeup call that we need to end our dependence on fossil fuels.

Titled "Bigger," the television ad shows how the disaster in the Gulf is bigger than one terrible accident. Our reliance on dirty fossil fuels has led to environmental catastrophe, skyrocketing gas prices, and a billion dollars spent every day to buy oil from abroad.

"It's time to stop buying a disaster when we buy our fuel," the ad says. "It's time to put America back in control of its energy."

"The tragedy in the Gulf of Mexico shows us we have no time to lose," said Maggie L. Fox, President and CEO of the Alliance for Climate Protection. "It's time to end our reliance on fossil fuels and make a transition to the clean, renewable energy sources that will drive the economy in the 21st century."

The ad begins running this weekend on network and cable news.

In the Senate, lawmakers have unveiled various proposals to limit pollution from fossil fuels and provide incentives for clean energy. Millions of American workers, veterans, small business owners, doctors and faith leaders have united behind the need for comprehensive clean energy and climate policies.

"If we want to truly protect our environment, our national security and our economic well being, the President and the Senate must step up their efforts to pass strong clean energy and climate legislation," Fox added. "We cannot wait for another tragedy before we take action."
