New Report: Green-Industry Sector Expected to Generate 115,000 Jobs
Publication Details Jobs Outlook, Commonwealth Investment in Green Economy
YORK, Pa., Feb. 4 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Labor & Industry Secretary Sandi Vito today introduced Pennsylvania's Green Jobs Report -- Part 1, detailing the outlook for green-industry careers and Pennsylvania's investments in developing a green economy in the coming years.
Joined by employees and representatives of Komax USA, a York-based solar equipment manufacturer, Vito noted that the investment of $10 billion in public and private funds, over the next three years, is expected to generate 115,000 green-industry jobs in the commonwealth.
"Pennsylvania is already a national leader in the number of green-economy jobs," Vito said. "By making smart investments that target training and economic development funds in the occupations and industries with the greatest potential to create career-focused green jobs, we can ensure the commonwealth's position as a leader for years to come."
The Pennsylvania Green Jobs Report identifies careers in five statewide, green industry sectors: Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy, Clean Transportation, Pollution Prevention & Environmental Cleanup and Agriculture & Resource Conservation. The report details occupations in each sector, provides employment projections, salary information, training requirements and outlines the skills necessary to compete and succeed in the increasingly competitive, green economy. Additionally, the report outlines current and forthcoming public and private investments in green industries, and their expected contribution to the commonwealth's economic recovery.
"The industries identified in the Pennsylvania Green Jobs Report are already playing an important role in our economic recovery, both here and nationwide," Vito said. "If Pennsylvania wants to retain its leadership position in the global marketplace, we must invest in the workforce and technologies necessary to succeed against global competitors."
