Presentation at Rayburn Office Building with Rep. Connolly and Government & Industry Panel
WASHINGTON, May 28, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Tomorrow TechAmerica Foundation will release a new report, Cloud Buyer's Guide for the Federal Government, to assist departments and agencies with their transition to cloud-based service models, a strategic priority for federal government under its Cloud First initiative. The report highlights industry best practices and case studies to provide guidance on successful implementation models and a clear path for adopting cloud services.
The Guide will be released at the Rayburn Office Building at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, and the presentation will include remarks from Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA and co-chair of the House Cloud Computing Caucus) and a panel of cloud experts in the public sector: Greg Capella of the Department of Homeland Security, Patrick Dwyer of CGI, Matthew Goodrich of the General Services Administration, Yogesh Khanna of CSC and Keith Trippie of the Trippie Group. "We are excited to provide the federal government with this new report to help them learn from industry," said Mike Hettinger, senior vice president, TechAmerica's public sector group. "As the federal government adopts and provides new tools and technology for its workforce, they can take advantage of the tech industry's experience gleaned from the transition in the private sector."
"The federal government should be applauded for its continued efforts at modernizing its IT infrastructure, especially in providing its employees the right tools in cloud services to make their lives easier and more efficient," said Yogesh Khanna, CTO for CSC. "The TechAmerica Foundation's Cloud Buyer's Guide outlines examples of how the federal government is already moving to take advantage of industry best practices, including a Q&A section with common questions about how cloud services work within federal procurement and IT systems."
The report outlines a series of recommendations, including:
- Begin with a business case that defines requirements and performance objectives.
- Map agency priorities.
- Understand the security requirements.
- Consider how the cloud services will be implemented.
- Develop a procurement/acquisition strategy appropriate for purchasing cloud computing.
- Take advantage of government-wide cloud initiatives.
- Look beyond hype to include people and process in decision-making.
- Leverage a common service measurement framework to evaluate providers.
- Understand timing and triggers for considering cloud deployment.
After the presentation on May 29, copies of guide will be available at http://www.techamericafoundation.org/research.
