Specifically designed for midsize companies, SAP Business ByDesign is a comprehensive, fully integrated on-demand business software suite that enables customers to get started quickly and easily running an extensive set of end-to-end business processes while having the option to gradually deploy the full, integrated suite at their own pace.
The next release of SAP Business ByDesign is slated to deliver compelling innovations, including:
- Real-time analytics. With in-memory analytics, customers can analyze all corporate data in real time for unparalleled decision support. This capability can also be harnessed via a bi-directional Microsoft Excel integration that enables information workers to easily access and manipulate the data using Excel's popular interface.
- Support for mobile devices. This will enable customers to stay actively engaged with their business while working remotely and will allow them to offer a greater level of service to their end customers. With its support of mobile devices SAP will deliver a simple yet powerful approach that is open for adaptation at a low total cost of ownership (TCO).
- Enhanced rich client user interface (UI). By incorporating Microsoft Silverlight into the front end, SAP attains new levels of interactivity through a fast, smooth and visually rich customer experiences for the Web, desktop and mobile devices. The UI offers business advantages through simplified navigation, interactive graphics, tighter Microsoft Office integration and easy personalization. The model-based UI also enables greater integration of mash-ups to extend the user interface with external services and content sources which can all be done by the user.
- Integration and extensibility. To meet the evolving needs of customers, SAP plans to provide a development environment for SAP Business ByDesign. This will allow partners to deliver additional services, scenarios and industry-specific functionality, including full complementary vertical solutions based on SAP Business ByDesign, that collectively meet the customer's requirements (see "Partners Further Enrich SME On-Demand Solution SAP Business ByDesign With Next Round of Complementary Solutions").
- Increased flexibility. This will allow key users and/or implementation partners to adapt the software's business configuration, user interface, reports and forms to best meet their unique needs.
- Single and multi-tenancy support. Customers can now choose either single or multi-tenant topologies as the solution is fully enabled to support both. Other than traditional on-demand offerings, SAP's multi tenancy concept has been engineered for customer and partner specific business extensions, business configuration and all kind of UI, report and forms flexibility. It leverages SAP's proven life cycle management system protecting all changes during upgrades. During the planning and engineering phases towards multi-tenancy, SAP collaborated with Intel to create an infrastructure optimized for the massively scalable 'cloud computing' environment of SAP Business ByDesign. The Intel® Xeon® Processor is the reference platform for SAP Business ByDesign deployments. The scalability and efficiency of Intel Xeon processors with the Next-Generation Intel® Microarchitecture will enable SAP to achieve even lower TCO for the solution's infrastructure by delivering equal business capability with a smaller server and carbon footprint, significantly lowering energy consumption compared to previous generation processors.
- Packaged starter offerings. With SAP Business ByDesign starter packages, customers can get going quickly with the key general business or customer management functionality offered in a preconfigured package with streamlined deployment. Professional services firms get the key functionality needed to run their businesses and manage resources and projects. As business grows, users can expand the scope and turn on additional functionality that is already built into the solution.
"With the upcoming innovations in SAP Business ByDesign, we aim to make a huge step forward in scalability and innovation while we enable our users to collaborate more effectively make better decisions and improve their productivity," said Peter Lorenz, executive vice president, Small and Midsize Enterprises, and corporate officer of the SAP Group. "These advancements will further increase the value that SAP Business ByDesign delivers to customers and support the aggressive growth strategies of midsize companies."
