A GIS mapping software company, Esri, and a Recovery Board contractor, Smartronix, Inc., worked with the Board to build the apps on Esri's ArcGIS application programming interface (API) for Apple's iPhone and iPad systems. Simply download the free iPhone app and iPad app at the Apple iTunes App Store and get instant access to maps and data at Recovery.gov, the website managed by the Recovery Board.
"The apps deliver information on Recovery spending to the quickly expanding mobile computer and smart phone segments,'' Devaney explained. "With these applications, you can use your handheld devices to look at data and maps highlighting Recovery-funded projects in your states and local communities.'' Devaney said that a user can simply search their zip codes to get access to local projects.
The new apps display a wealth of information, including award amounts, the name of the program under which a project is funded, the recipient, and the purpose of the project.
In addition, "If you see an indication of fraud, waste and abuse,'' Devaney said, "you can report that information on your mobile device.''
The apps are among the latest features and enhancements developed by the Recovery Board to provide easier access to information on the economic stimulus program. Congress approved the Recovery Act in February 2009. The program funds contracts, grants and loans along with entitlements and tax benefits.
