New Randomized Double-Blind Clinical Study Shows Oska® Pulse Significantly Reduces Pain
Results of just-completed study at Scripps Memorial published in "Practical Pain Management Journal"
CARLSBAD, Calif., Feb. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Oska Wellness, a technology company committed to developing consumer health and wellness products, has released the results of a randomized double-blind placebo study showing significant results in pain reduction by using Oska Pulse.
The clinical trial was completed at the Virtual Reality Medical Center, Scripps Memorial Hospital, in La Jolla, California and conducted by a respected team of doctors: Dr. Joseph Shurman, Dr. Brenda K. Wiederhold, Dr. Roger Kasendorf, Dr. John Qian, and Dr. Mark D. Wiederhold.
The detailed findings have been published here, the Practical Pain Management Journal website, which offers current, useful, and practical information for patients living with chronic pain, and for the medical professionals who treat them.
The Method
The renowned pain management doctors conducted the controlled trial with 30 patients (diagnosed with chronic knee, shoulder, or back pain) recruited at two San Diego area chronic pain clinics. The majority of the patients achieved significant pain reduction with Oska Pulse.
Each participant was provided a daily log to report their pain, stress, and daily use of the Oska Pulse. Pain and stress scores in the daily logs were based on a 10 point scale, and participants were sent home with either an Oska Pulse or a placebo device. Both patients and investigators were blinded as to real or placebo Oska device.
For two weeks, participants used the Oska Pulse or a placebo device while recording their pain, stress, and number of times using the device in the daily log. For the first seven days, all participants were instructed to use the device 4-6 times per day for 30 minutes at a time. Participants in the second week were asked to use the device only 2-4 times per day for 30 minutes at a time. Again, participants recorded their pain, stress, and usage in the daily log.
Upon completion of the trial, participants returned their devices and daily logs to the clinical trial coordinator.
Results
- The majority of those who used the actual Oska Pulse had a significant decrease in pain levels
- No patients using the real Oska Pulse had an increase in pain
- Some patients also had a corresponding decrease in stress, indicating a secondary benefit was received from using the device
- Those who used the placebo device showed an increase in pain
"We were very encouraged with this trial and it has provided valuable information on how PEMF therapy can treat chronic pain," said Dr. Brenda Wiederhold. "With the opioid epidemic, it is really timely to find other non-narcotic pain relief solutions for patients."
"I am very excited as the study confirms that using the Oska Pulse is a true pain relief device regardless of the user(s) background." Greg Houlgate, President and CEO of Oska Wellness. "Oska Pulse is providing relief for many early users of the product by helping to reduce back, shoulder, knee, ankle, and foot pain, as well as chronic pain issues. The feedback from this double-blind study confirms that Oska Pulse can really help people dealing with pain."
Chronic Pain and PEMF Technology
Chronic pain affects more than 100 million people each year (according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and is a contributing factor to the nationwide opioid epidemic. Oska Pulse is a safe, easy-to-use, portable and wearable health technology product designed to help reduce muscle stiffness, temporarily relieve minor pain and increase mobility for people who have acute or chronic pain.
In a recent survey conducted by Oska Wellness, 50 percent of respondents said that they have had some type of pain for more than five years (primarily back, knee, neck, arm, hip pain); 34 percent said they suffer from chronic pain. Also, 80 percent of the respondents use Oska Pulse anywhere from several times a day to several times a week, achieving positive results and drastic reduction of medication.
Oska Pulse, with proprietary eTec™ Pulse Technology, safely optimizes Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) therapeutic technology, a therapy trusted by medical practitioners to help people live a more active, pain-free and drug-free lifestyle. By assisting the release of the body's natural endorphins, Oska Pulse can reduce pain and also promote increased range of motion. Oska Pulse can help dilate blood vessels, which may reduce inflammation and increase blood flow.
The benefits of PEMF therapy have been documented in multiple clinical studies (available on the Oska Wellness website here). It is recommended that those who are pregnant or nursing and/or who have a heart pacemaker or defibrillator as well as cancer patients should consult their physician before using Oska Pulse.
An Alternative to Prescription Medication
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration announced that 2 million Americans suffer from substance abuse due to prescription opioid pain relievers. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 40 Americans die every day from prescription opioid overdoses.
OTC acetaminophen drug abuse is one of the most common causes of liver failure in the U.S. According to a 2014 study published in the Expert Review of Clinical Pharmacology, OTC drugs with acetaminophen send an average of 80,000 people annually to emergency rooms due to abuse.
With Oska Pulse, people can take control of their pain and enjoy a more active lifestyle without the dangers of drugs, and without a physician's prescription.
