New Procedures Consult Mobile From Elsevier Enables Clinicians to View Top Medical Procedures From Mobile Devices
PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania, July 14, 2010 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
- Physicians, Residents and Students now Able to Prepare, Review and Test Knowledge of Common Medical Procedures Anywhere, Anytime
Elsevier, the world's leading publisher of scientific, technical, and medical information products and services, announced today that physicians, residents and students will be able to visualize and review over 300 top medical procedures on their mobile devices with the launch of Procedures Consult Mobile. As the use of smartphones increases in the clinical setting, access to mobile resources proves to be an essential tool for verifying physicians' knowledge and skills before conducting a procedure.
"As the leading multimedia, online skills-focused education program, Procedures Consult allows clinicians to learn and review important procedural skills at the most 'teachable moment', furthering their education and training while simultaneously increasing patient safety and reducing adverse medical events," said Dr. Jonathan Teich, Chief Medical Informatics Officer for Elsevier Health Sciences. "The mobile-enabled version further expands the value of Procedures Consult by putting this knowledge right in your pocket, close to you at every point of care."
Procedures Consult Mobile provides web-enabled smartphones with access to expert videos, "quick review" text and illustrations, checklists and universal protocol content for every procedure - all presented within a user interface optimized for smartphone web browsers. The mobile site allows clinicians who may not have studied or conducted a procedure for a period of time the ability to prepare for, perform and follow-up on the most common procedures required in today's hospital setting.
This mobile-enabled platform allows both students and practicing physicians the ability to review procedures from anywhere, at anytime, which is becoming increasingly essential in the medical setting.
Clinicians can view modules in the following seven areas: anesthesia, emergency medicine, family medicine, general surgery, internal medicine, orthopaedics and a collection specifically geared to the needs of medical students.
Procedures Consult Mobile is included as part of the current Procedures Consult institutional subscription package at no additional charge, as well as upcoming individual subscription offerings beginning in July 2010. Users can access Procedures Consult Mobile by pointing a mobile browser to http://m.proceduresconsult.com with a valid username and password.
