(Colgate-Palmolive) reported that it has issued its new Policy on No Deforestation, including a pledge for its palm oil supply to ensure that it will be fully traceable and back to the plantation by 2015. According to Colgate-Palmolive, this policy outlines commitments to responsibly source the forest commodities of pulp and paper, palm oil and derivatives, soy and soy oil and beef tallow. According to the Company, consumer packaged goods companies can impact deforestation through sourcing decisions for packaging and ingredients. Packaging Corp. of America Analyst Notes
On March 26, 2014, Packaging Corp. of America (PCA) announced that it will convert its No. 3 newsprint machine (D3) that is currently being used at its DeRidder, Louisiana mill. According to the Company, the D3 machine will continue newsprint production for PCA customers through mid-September 2014 and will be converted to containerboard production, with an expected start-up date of November 1, 2014; while the idled No. 2 paper machine (D2) will not be converted. The Company stated that the estimated cost to convert D3 will be $115 million with annual containerboard capacity of 355,000 tons, as compared to the estimated capital cost of converting D2 which is c. $160 million. Moreover, the Company mentioned this project is expected to produce an after-tax discounted cash flow return of 30%-35% compared to less than a 20% return on the D2 project. According to the Company, under the agreement, PVH will design, market, and distribute better men's sportswear for G-III's G.H. Bass & Co. brand. The Company added that the collection will launch for Fall 2014.
