SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Applied Weather Technology, Inc. (AWT), a StormGeo Company and leading provider of fleet optimization services and onboard voyage management software announced its collaboration with Japan Radio Company (JRC) to develop and deliver the new J-Marine Routing system. JRC is a world-leading supplier of navigation and communications systems to merchant ships and other sea going vessels whose mission is to provide the best products possible based on unique technologies. J-Marine Routing is a service that offers back of the bridge route planning and integrates with JRC's new J-Marine Cloud Service.
J-Marine Routing was developed to make passage planning easier for ship captains. By creating a strategic route plan at the back of the bridge and the seamless transfer of the track to the Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) system, captains will have the tools to quickly identify the safest and most economical route, and input the route into a vessel's navigation system. In addition, JRC's ECDIS system will share information with J-Marine Routing. The JRC's ECDIS system's "no-go" areas will be transferred to J-Marine Routing for more accurate optimization results, while seamlessly integrating into JRC's J-Marine Cloud Service.
The JRC J-Marine Cloud Service provides a comprehensive solution for satellite airtime, ship navigation systems, online chart management, weather data, and route planning, to make it easier for the crew to optimize the safety and efficiency of the vessel. The new JRC information sharing between ECDIS and J-Marine Routing will be a portal for sending valuable voyage data back to shore, such as their route plan, position and other parameters. This new partnership and creation of J-Marine Routing can save the crew time while doing route planning and minimize the amount of time spent editing the track when moved between systems.
Haydn Jones, AWT's CEO said, "It is very clear to me that there must be a convergence between weather-based ship routing and onboard ship voyage planning tools. Equally the progression towards universal carriage of ECDIS on board SOLAS compliant vessels presents both a need and an opportunity for better integration of weather and navigation systems. We are proud to be working with such a well-known and prestigious company as JRC to achieve these goals. We believe that the seamless integration of AWT's software into JRC's bridge systems will provide users with the best tools available for safe and efficient voyage planning onboard the ship while at the same time helping ship owners and operators attain both improved time efficiency and fuel efficiency."
According to Keimei Kojima, Executive Officer of the JRC Marine Electronics Division, "JRC is pleased to be working with AWT, an internationally acknowledged market leader in voyage management services and software. The J-Marine Cloud offering provides our customers with an optimal solution giving them a seamless, one-stop service that results in efficient and accurate route planning and ship navigation."
