New Paper and Video Series Highlight How States Are Seizing Local Control Under ESSA

WASHINGTON, July 20, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- This week, Conservative Leaders for Education (CL4E) released a new series of white papers and videos that shed light on some of the bold, new visions shaping education policy in states across the country. At the heart of all these cases, are CL4E members who are striving to bring education decision-making back to the local level and ensure all students in their states are receiving an education that prepares them for college and 21^st-century careers.

"With new authority comes new responsibility, and the obligation to lead," said CL4E's chairman, William J. Bennett, former Education Secretary under President Ronald Reagan. "ESSA's historical shift in education policy authority back to the states heightens the responsibility of state leaders to step up and effectively implement practical policies that will improve the lives of students and in turn strengthen our communities."

The paper series titled, "Seizing Local Control in Education" contains three case studies from the following states:

2. Colorado: Ensuring Academic Development and Growth of Every Student Matters in an Accountability System
   
   
3. Kentucky: Linking Career and Technical Education to a State's Accountability System
