IRVINE, Calif., May 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Business professionals know that projects frequently run the risk of getting disrupted, or the course of a project may change midway. At the same time, taking control of a troubled project and turning it around can be crucial to meeting organizational goals. For those tasked with managing and running projects, the University of California, Irvine Extension announces two new online project management courses: "Get to Green: Turning Around Troubled Projects" and "Agile Executing and Control." Offered for the summer quarter, these courses are scheduled to run from Monday, July 20 through Sunday, Aug. 30. Registration is now open.
"Successful project management professionals need a strong understanding of how to communicate status, identify team dynamics and manage risks successfully throughout the lifespan of important projects," said Stephane Muller, director of business programs at UC Irvine Extension. "With industry leaders teaching these courses, participants will benefit from their instructors' real world experiences. Students will learn valuable skills for improving their project execution and team management."
Get to Green: Turning Around Troubled Projects
In any project you run the risk of significant disruptions. In this course, participants will learn how to establish an appropriate rescue strategy to address symptoms of—or trends with—a troubled project. Students will learn how to rehabilitate a project team, and take preventive actions to mitigate project interferences. Students also have the added benefit of learning from Neil Sahota, a Project Executive for IBM Global Business Services. Sahota manages complex programs involving teams around the world for Global Fortune 500 clients, and has lead teams in strategy, change, business process management, new product development, system integration, regulatory compliance, and IT development.
Agile Executing and Control
Agile projects require careful execution and well-controlled activities. In this course, participants will take a detailed look at how to manage the role of teams, project rhythms, execution, and handling risks correctly. Course assignments and discussions will also provide lessons for tracking and communicating project status. The course is led by Bob Tarne, an accomplished Engagement Manager at IBM Software Group with experience in consulting, speaking and writing. Tarne specializes in leading business process improvement initiatives following lean/agile project management techniques.
