ORCHARD PARK, N.Y., Nov. 8, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Oncotarget, the world's largest oncology peer-reviewed research publication, is set to extend its reach with a series of podcasts that will allow scientists to delve deeper into a variety of research contributions found in the journal.
Subscribers to the new podcast series will gain access to the journal's most important discoveries through full readings of published papers, interviews with outstanding authors, and selected readings from the Oncotarget blog. The podcast will highlight topics in oncology and beyond, including aging, pathology, immunology and microbiology, autophagy, chromosome, neuroscience, endocrinology, cardiology, metabolism, cell biology, pharmacology and more on Stitcher, Blubrry, and Soundcloud.
"Our mission has always been to make exceptional discoveries rapidly and widely available, eliminate borders between specialties by linking different fields of biomedical science and foster applications of basic and clinical science," said Mikhail Blagosklonny, Oncotarget's editor-in-chief. "This new podcast series will be another way to deliver people free access to the research published in this journal."
The podcast series will contain multiple streams that will target a variety of listeners.
- Full readings of published papers - For researchers with little time and a lot of important content in the field to digest, Oncotarget will present unabridged audio versions of its key papers. While driving home from the lab, or pipetting, the key content of Oncotarget will be at a researcher's disposal.
- Interviews with authors - This podcast will present in-depth interviews with authors who take listeners beyond the white paper to hear about surprising, interesting, or challenging aspects of the research and gain a glimpse into future directions of the topic.
- Selected Readings from the Oncotarget Blog - Oncology is a field that affects everyone, for those looking to take a wider look at the important work of cancer research, Oncotarget will present a blog and related podcast for a more general audience. These podcasts will include plain language coverage of top performing papers in an effort to bring the discussion from the laboratory to the dinner table.
In addition to providing an additional free service to its readers, the podcast benefits the publication's authors as they seek to communicate their findings and disseminate their research to pertinent stakeholders.
"Oncotarget does not stop once the paper is published," said Blagosklonny. "It is only halfway done. This podcast is part of an enhanced post publication service Oncotarget provides to authors of its papers by helping them to reach a wider audience." This service includes publicizing the research on Oncotarget's homepage, its social platforms, and via its other public relations efforts.
