New Office Building For Blue Cross And Blue Shield Of GA Opens Today
COLUMBUS, Ga., Sept. 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- A new office building developed by The Molasky Group for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia (BCBSGa), the state's largest health solutions company, opens today in the Muscogee Technology Park in Columbus. The new 235,000 square foot facility will house approximately 1500 employees and will be BCBSGa's main hub for servicing its nearly 3 million members with healthcare plans, including medical, dental, life and specialty programs.
"This new building sends a strong message that BCBSGa wants to best serve its customers, employees and community," says Matt Connolly, Vice President of Development for The Molasky Group. "They've created a quality environment with a workplace that supports its mission as the largest and longest-standing health insurer in the state. And as a major reinvestment in the Columbus community, it demonstrates a cooperative business climate conducive to economic growth and business development."
Integral partners in the project were the Columbus Consolidated Government, the Development Authority of Columbus, Georgia, and the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce. "The structure that Columbus has is unique as it allows for a streamlined process from permitting to Certificate of Occupancy. And, the Columbus Chamber's economic development team was with us every step of the way," says Connolly.
The new three story facility will replace an existing facility that BCBSGa has owned since 1958 and a smaller leased facility in the Muscogee Technology Park and brings together the largest collection of BCBSGa employees of any single location in Georgia. The building will feature two wings connected by an atrium. It has an outdoor patio, a fitness center and a 1.15-mile walking path.
A groundbreaking ceremony held in August 2014 included a time capsule to commemorate the site. To develop the site, Molasky partnered with Batson Cook Construction of West Point, Georgia as the general contractor and Hecht Burdeshaw Architects of Columbus, Georgia as the architectural firm. More than 150 construction workers were employed at the peak of construction, the vast majority of which through subcontractors from the Columbus area and the State of Georgia.
More than 200 guests attended a ribbon cutting ceremony today including Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle, Columbus Mayor Teresa Tomlinson, Columbus Chamber of Commerce President Brian Anderson, Chairman of the Development Authority of Columbus Billy Blanchard, and Development Authority of Columbus Board Member Russ Carreker.
The Molasky Group, which has offices in Atlanta and Las Vegas, recently opened a 110,000 office and warehouse facility in Las Vegas for pharmacy benefits manager, Catamaran Rx/Briova Rx and is under construction on several large scale projects including outpatient clinics for United States Department of Veteran Affairs in Birmingham, AL and Eugene, OR; FBI Field Offices in Boston, MA and Milwaukee, WI; and residential projects in Glendale, CA and Portland, OR.
