New Novel 'Forgotten Word' Spurs Discussion on Religion's Pervasive Role in Society
Author Sam Jane Brown's debut novel explores the possibility of a new world order without religion (and how it intertwines with evil), and how our society will be transformed as a result.
MANCHESTER, England, Jan. 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Author Sam Jane Brown's premiere fictional novel, titled Forgotten Word, has already prompted many discussions among readers and book clubs as it explores the role of religion, evil and how a new world order without religion would impact our world. In fact, it's a theme that ties into events that have recently captured headlines across the globe.

"The recent events in the Middle East involving ISIS and the execution of journalists and missionaries have shone a spotlight on the role of religion in our modern world," the UK-based author explained, adding, "We have groups who are commandeering religion; they're hijacking religion and using it in a manner that serves their own agenda."
While religion can bring out the best in some people, a few would argue that it seems to bring out the evil in others; others who skew the messages and lessons contained within religious texts, using them to justify the perpetration of very evil deeds, such as executions, war and oppression.
So what if society found itself at a point where religion was doing more harm than good? What if religion could open a portal, allowing evil forces to permeate our world and necessitating a ban on religion? How would this change the world?
'It's a curious idea, the concept of banning religion out of necessity in order to snuff out a pervasive evil force. Without religion, we would be tasked with rebuilding many aspects of our society. We would be forced to re-define how we view ourselves and the world around us."
Forgotten Word follows Zena McGrath, an investigator who confronts powerful evil forces when she's dispatched to the Vatican to investigate a clergyman's death. McGrath soon realizes that this is no ordinary death and she's soon sent to New York City to investigate yet another pastor's passing.
But as McGrath jets back to the United States, she realizes that she's not alone. A powerful evil entity has tailed her. Ultimately, it becomes clear that an abolition of religion may be the only way to extinguish this evil, necessitating the formation of an entirely new world order.
