New Nonprofit "NS2 Serves" Seeks 20 Post-9/11 Veterans for I.T. Training and Career Placement Program; Deadline Jan 31, 2014
Trainees to Receive Pay, Mentorship and Placement Assistance in U.S. National Security Field
ROCKVILLE, Md., Jan. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- With less than three weeks to go, a new Maryland-based nonprofit is recruiting for post-9/11 veterans to join a world-class I.T. training and career placement program. Up to 20 training slots are available for a three-month course that begins in Potomac, Maryland on March 3. Applications are due by close of business on Friday, January 31.
The training program is being offered by NS2 Serves (www.NS2Serves.org), a new nonprofit established by SAP National Security Services, Inc.TM (SAP NS2TM) to give back to the community it serves. Full-time, paid participants will be trained in leading software solutions that support U.S. national security missions. Graduates will gain "SAP Associate Consultant" status – a certification that is highly valuable in many career paths in the U.S. and worldwide. Trainees also will have weekly discussions with a business mentor and, upon graduation, will receive placement assistance to work in the U.S. national security field or elsewhere in SAP's vast U.S. network.
The course is open to post-9/11 veterans of US military service, as well as civilians who served in war zones and qualified spouses. Preference will be given to those who are recently returned from war zones and are seeking their first post-separation opportunity.
"We're now recruiting and selecting our first class of trainees," said Vice Adm. Joe Kernan, US Navy, Retired, a 30-year veteran of the Navy SEAL team, who is Chairman of the NS2 Serves Board of Directors. "We will begin the competitive selection process in early February, and so we are endeavoring to expose the program to as many veterans as possible. Our hope is to run multiple courses annually and offer this great opportunity to deserving veterans in an enduring way."
Like Kernan, NS2 Serves' first Executive Director, Stephen Kupcha, is also a former Navy SEAL. Until recently, Kupcha served as senior manager of public relations and military/community outreach for the PGA TOUR, where he was responsible for overseeing Birdies for the Brave, a national initiative designed to support veterans in their transitions back to civilian life.
"I'm pleased to join NS2 Serves as it begins to provide world-class training and support to U.S. veterans," said Kupcha. "From personal experience, I've seen how hard it can be for veterans to begin a new career on the home front. NS2 Serves is going to tackle that head-on by giving our graduates excellent training that will qualify them for immediate work in the software field."
