New National Data Shows Coaching Awareness Levels by Country
LEXINGTON, Ky., Jan. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Professional coaching has made an imprint on people in countries across the globe. In fact, more than half of the general population is aware of professional coaching, according to the ICF Global Consumer Awareness Study which gauges global awareness of coaching for the first time.
Overall, 51 percent of 15,000 participants in the study reported they were "somewhat aware" or "very aware" of professional coaching. While awareness of coaching varied by country, it is clearly gaining widespread attention as more people are experiencing coaching and looking to coaching as a new career choice. The following countries stood out as having the highest awareness levels of the profession: South Africa (92 percent were "somewhat aware" or "very aware"), India (80 percent), France (75 percent), United Kingdom (74 percent) and Australia (72 percent).
"This data shows us that coaching has spread quickly from its inception nearly two decades ago in North America to six continents today," ICF President Ed Modell, PCC, said. "In fact, we see the diverse geographical spread as proof that the value of coaching is being recognized by people of many cultures and backgrounds which is promising for our industry's future."
Not only does new national data from the ICF Global Awareness Study provide a glimpse of coaching on a global scale, but it also shows awareness of the ICF, the largest global organization for professional coaches. Countries with the highest awareness levels of the ICF are India (57 percent are somewhat aware or very aware), South Africa (31 percent), Mexico (29 percent), Brazil (28 percent), and Italy (27 percent).
"It is likely that these top awareness areas for ICF have emerged due to our increased presence in those countries over the last few years," explained Modell. "We have recently visited India and Brazil and our 2010 president, Giovanna D'Alessio, MCC, is from Italy. We are planning on increasing our presence into other markets in the near future."
The Global Consumer Awareness Study, which surveyed individuals from 20 countries, was conducted independently by the International Survey Unit of PwC. To download the Executive Summary and to learn more about this groundbreaking research visit http://Coachfederation.org/works.
