New Mexico American Water Partners With American Water Works Association to Promote 'Drinking Water Week'
Utility emphasizes conservation during public campaign
CLOVIS, N.M., May 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The week of May 2-8 has been declared "Drinking Water Week" by the American Water Works Association, a consortium of more than 60,000 water utilities, regulating agencies and policy makers dedicated to improving water supply and quality in North America.
In recognition of this week, New Mexico American Water is raising awareness amongst its customers, community and local governments of the fundamental need for safe and reliable drinking water supplies for public health, fire protection, economic development and the overall quality of life we enjoy as communities and individuals.
This year, New Mexico American Water is focused on promoting water conservation during Drinking Water Week.
Conservation is critically important in the Clovis area in order to ensure a reliable supply of water as water levels in the Ogallala continue to decline.
"Conserving this precious resource remains our number one priority," said Kathy Wright, general manager of New Mexico American Water. "We are constantly investing in and working to improve the water infrastructure. We must all use a bit less to ensure a safe and reliable water supply for ourselves, our children and grandchildren."
Comprehensive conservation measures, Wright added, are key to preserving future economic growth and quality of life.
"New Mexico American Water offers great rebates for water efficient toilets, appliances and landscaping," Wright said. "Summer is just around the corner and I urge everyone in Clovis to save money and water by taking advantage of our conservation programs and following the three-day-per-week watering schedule."
New Mexico American Water currently offers rebates to customers for water efficient toilets and clothes washers. Residential customers are also eligible for rebates to convert turf lawns with water efficient landscaping.
