On June 3, 2014, Walgreen Co. (Walgreen) announced the launch of a nationwide program that will offer talking prescription devices to help customers with visual impairments. Walgreens stated that the Talking Pill Reminder is an exclusive prescription device that can be recorded to speak the information on the customer's prescription medication label, and it also has an audible alarm to remind patients when to take a medication. Walgreen added that the device attaches to prescription containers and will be given free of charge with prescription medications that it dispenses. The Company noted that the Talking Pill Reminder is available to customers of Walgreens retail pharmacies across the country and through Walgreens prescription mail service. CVS Caremark Corporation Analyst Notes
On June 2, 2014, CVS Caremark Corporation (CVS Caremark) announced an in-store fundraising campaign that will help fight lung cancer -the #1 cancer killer of women. According to CVS Caremark, funds that will be raised through the said campaign will benefit LUNG FORCE, which is a new initiative to make lung cancer in women a public health priority, drive policy change and increase research funding. CVS Caremark stated that from the date of this announcement through June 29, 2014, CVS/pharmacy customers will have the opportunity to contribute to LUNG FORCE at the register in stores nationwide or online at the Company's website. Rite Aid Corp. Analyst Notes
On June 4, 2014, Rite Aid Corp. (Rite Aid) announced that the Company has initiated a voluntary recall of approximately 560 16 oz. pints of Mint 'n Chip ice cream distributed under the Thrifty brand name. According to Rite Aid, these pints contain pistachio ice cream with pistachios, but the ice cream was mislabeled as being Mint 'n Chip. Rite Aid stated that people who are allergic to nuts, that also include pistachios, may run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product. According to the Company, it has notified the United States Food and Drug Administration of this issue on June 3, 2014 and will work in consultation with it regarding this recall. The Company also mentioned that the recall affects only 16 oz. Mint 'n Chip ice cream pints which are sold exclusively in Rite Aid stores in California.
