New Logo for the Foundation Fighting Blindness Conveys Light and Hope for People with Vision-Robbing Retinal Diseases

COLUMBIA, Md., Jan. 8, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- The Foundation Fighting Blindness, a world leader in funding the battle against retinal degenerative diseases for more than 47 years, today announced that it has adopted a new branded logo. The image conveys how the Foundation projects a beacon of light, and hope, for those affected by blinding retinal conditions. The logo also conveys how the Foundation sheds light on innovative research for treatments and cures.

"The decision to create the Foundation's new logo came out of a deep commitment to our mission and the desire to build from our current brand in a way that clearly and strongly emphasizes our purpose: fighting blindness," said Jason Menzo, chief operating officer. "We serve as a beacon of hope and light for the millions of individuals and families affected by retinal diseases. Our team is excited about our 2019 initiatives."

Since its inception, the Foundation Fighting Blindness has raised more than $730 million in an effort to battle retinal diseases through scientific innovation and is on track to make greater strides in 2019.

This year, the Foundation will continue to expand the translational and clinical research projects for treatments and cures through its RD Fund. Launched in late 2018, the retinal disease venture philanthropy fund drives emerging therapies that are moving toward, or in, clinical trials.

In 2019, the Foundation will continue to expand its patient registry hosted at www.MyRetinaTracker.org and its no-cost patient genetic testing program.

The Foundation enters 2019 with a portfolio of 70 research projects underway at prominent institutions around the world. The projects include gene therapies, stem cell treatments, and pharmaceutical approaches.

The Foundation's ongoing pursuit to prevent, treat and cure blindness caused by retinal degenerative diseases impacts many worldwide. It also provides a source of hope and inspiration for people with retinal disease through public education initiatives that demystify the complex science behind these diseases and associated medical interventions.
