New Logic Research and Agrotropico Combine to Create World's First Zero Waste Palm Oil Mill
EMERYVILLE, Calif. and LA TRINITARIA, Mexico, Sept. 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- New Logic Research and Aceites Sustentables de Palma S.A. de C.V, an Agrotropico company, announced today the finalization of an agreement to provide a VSEP® vibrating membrane system to a new integrated palm oil facility in Chiapas, Mexico. Combined with Agrotropico's industry-leading green production methods, the addition of a VSEP system is taking sustainability to levels before unseen in the palm oil industry: a true zero waste facility in which 100% of solid waste is composted, and 100% of the liquid waste is recycled within the facility.

VSEP's patented vibratory shear mechanism coupled with an innovative filter pack design keeps its membranes free of obstruction, ensuring trouble-free operation in the face of difficult feed waters like palm oil mill effluent (POME).
"Even with extensive treatment from anaerobic and aerobic digesters, POME has a lot of residual contaminants that can be harmful if discharged directly to the environment," said New Logic CEO Greg Johnson. "But with VSEP®, the water is not only treated, but re-used in the process. It's a win-win for the Agrotropico and the environment, and that's what sustainable business is all about."
Agrotropico's commitment to the environment is evidenced the addition of the VSEP system, which provides the bridge to 100% sustainability.
"Even with all of our green growing and manufacturing practices, we're always looking for ways to decrease our environmental footprint," said Jorge Medrano, CEO of Agrotropico, "and the VSEP system will enable us to do just that. Not only are we solving a wastewater problem, we're turning it into the high quality water necessary to produce our products. We feel the technology is a game changer for the palm oil industry, and we're excited to be leading the way."
The VSEP system will be built at New Logic's Emeryville, California manufacturing facility. Full commissioning will commence later in 2016.
