New Lab Book from Vernier Integrates Data-Collection Technology into Inquiry-Based Investigations for AP Chemistry
Vernier Chemistry Investigations for Use with AP* Chemistry helps teachers meet the new requirements of The College Board's AP Chemistry Curriculum Framework
BEAVERTON, Ore., June 17, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The new Vernier Chemistry Investigations for use with AP* Chemistry lab book from Vernier Software & Technology provides 16 student-directed, inquiry-based laboratory investigations. Aligned with the AP Chemistry Lab Manual published by The College Board, lab instructions help students use sensors, such as the Vernier pH Sensor and SpectroVis Plus Spectrophotometer, to collect data. These investigations help educators meet the new AP Chemistry Curriculum Framework requirements to provide AP Chemistry students with six investigations that use an inquiry-based model of instruction.
"Our new lab book addresses The College Board's AP Chemistry Curriculum Framework shift from a traditional, content-based model to one that supports an inquiry-based model of instruction," said Jack Randall, Director of Chemistry at Vernier. "In addition to engaging, hands-on investigations that utilize data-collection technologies, the lab book includes a comprehensive set of resources to help teachers guide AP Chemistry students as they learn key concepts."
The lab book provides AP Chemistry teachers with sample data, analysis and calculations, as well as helpful guides to preparing chemical solutions. An accompanying CD with editable Microsoft Word files for all of the student sections is also provided to allow teachers to adjust lessons to meet their instructional needs. For students, the lab book includes a carefully chosen set of step-by-step instructions for operating sensors and software to help them make the best use of available lab time, while retaining the spirit of an inquiry environment.
