MCLEAN, Va., Dec. 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.), which went 11-0 while winning a record sixth straight New Jersey non-public school state championship, finished No. 1 in the final 2011 USA TODAY Super 25 high school football rankings.
The full Super 25 rankings appear in today's print edition of USA TODAY and online at www.highschoolsports.net. The USA TODAY Super 25 is the most prestigious high school ranking platform in the nation, dating back to 1982 when Moeller (Cincinnati, Ohio) went 13-0 to finish No. 1.
Don Bosco, which also topped the Super 25 rankings in 2009, started this fall at No. 1 and never relinquished its spot. The Ironmen played a national schedule, ending the 35-game winning streak of California power Mission Viejo (Calif.) in the season opener and traveling to beat eventual 7A Florida state champ Manatee (Bradenton, Fla.).
Don Bosco also beat archrival Bergen Catholic (Oradell, N.J.) twice, the second time coming in the Non-Public Group 4 state championship, 42-14. The Ironmen finished the season with a 46-game winning streak.
Louisville, KY's Trinity HS (14-0) ranked second overall in the Super 25, followed by Armwood HS (Seffner, FL, 15-0) at number three, Grayson HS (Loganville, GA, 15-0) at number four, and Bishop Gorman (15-1) of Las Vegas, NV at number five.
The state of Florida placed four schools in the final Super 25 rankings—Armwood at number three, Norland (Miami) at number 13, Miami Central at number 14 and Tampa's Plant HS at number 15. Texas was the only other state with multiple entries, with Austin's Lake Travis HS at number 10 and Carroll HS of Southlake, TX at number 25.
