NEW JERSEY HEALTH Foundation Awards $1.2 Million for Innovative Research
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J., Jan. 7, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- NEW JERSEY HEALTH Foundation (NJHF) has awarded grants totaling $1.2 million to advance innovative research in New Jersey.
This round of funding for the NEW JERSEY HEALTH Foundation Research Grant Program was available for faculty members at Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS), part of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.
Twenty-three grants of $35,000 each will provide seed or bridge funding for researchers throughout RBSH who are exploring a variety of areas including:
- Regulation of cancer metabolism;
- Safe use of antipsychotic medications in children and adolescents;
- Control of sepsis;
- Neurotropic agents for treating Parkinson's disease;
- Lyme disease detection;
- Anti-fungal drug development;
- Mechanism of antituberculosis activity of statins.
Three grants of $100,000 and two of $50,000 were awarded to advance research relevant to RBHS signature programs. Projects will explore:
- An unconventional receptor critically important to cancer development;
- Ways to promote remyelination in multiple sclerosis;
- Better predictors for latent tuberculosis reactivation;
- New pathways to promote immunity and lung health;
- Effects of exposure to traffic-related air pollution among New Jersey commuters.
