ATLANTA, Aug. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- With all of us busier than ever, it is important to find easy ways to eat nutritious foods that provide lasting energy. With this in mind, the National Peanut Board (NPB) has launched the Peanuts: Energy for the Good Life® iPhone® app. The free app offers recipes, snack suggestions and a five-minute mindfulness meditation exercise with Stephan Bodian, author of Meditation for Dummies® -- tools to help people care for their bodies and minds throughout every part of every day.

The app features more than 30 dietitian selected recipes and allows users to set reminders to have a snack or take a break. Snacks supply energy throughout the day when hunger strikes, and help to prevent overeating during meals. With more protein than any nut, USA-grown peanuts and peanut products are great snacks that provide the energy needed to "trump the slump" and get through the day. Users can also easily access nutrition information for each recipe whether they're at the supermarket or at home.
"Peanuts not only taste great, they are packed with protein, energy and more than 30 essential nutrients and phytonutrients," said NPB staff dietitian Bonnie Johnson. "As a mother of two, I know firsthand the importance of finding easy ways to add nutritional value to any meal or snack."
Understanding that eating well is only one component of living a balanced life, NPB teamed up with Bodian, an internationally known meditation teacher, to give users quick and easy access to a five-minute break. The mindfulness meditation exercise leads users into a period of relaxed yet focused awareness, allowing them to concentrate on the sensations of their body and their breath.
"According to our latest Consumer Attitudes Tracking Study, 90 percent of Americans have at least one jar of peanut butter in their household," said National Peanut Board president and managing director Raffaela Marie Fenn. "But in designing this app, we wanted to give users more than just great recipes with peanuts and peanut butter; we wanted to give them a number of ways to re-charge their batteries and stay energized in their lives."
A licensed psychotherapist, Bodian offers meditation-inspired counseling for personal growth and stress management to clients throughout the world. He is the former editor-in-chief of Yoga Journal, practiced as a Zen Buddhist monk for 10 years and studied Asian language and culture at Columbia and Stanford.
The National Peanut Board represents all USA peanut farmers and their families. Through research and marketing initiatives the Board is finding new ways to enhance production and increase consumer demand by promoting the great taste, nutrition and culinary versatility of USA-grown peanuts.
