New Intermountain Healthcare Transformation Lab To Feature Sotera's ViSi Mobile System
SAN DIEGO, Aug. 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Sotera® Wireless, Inc. today announced the ViSi Mobile® System, a wireless wrist-worn patient monitoring system designed to support hospital patient safety, will be featured at Intermountain Healthcare's new Healthcare Transformation Lab. The Salt Lake City-based Healthcare Transformation Lab formally opens later this month and will showcase and foster technology poised to advance healthcare.
"Patient safety is a chief concern among hospitals, especially as the demands on our nation's healthcare system increase," said Frederick Holston, Intermountain's chief technology officer and head of the new Healthcare Transformation Lab. "We believe the ViSi Mobile System's efficient and innovative vital sign surveillance is an ideal example of how technology can provide solutions that will improve quality of care while decreasing cost."
"We are proud to participate in the Healthcare Transformation Lab and share Intermountain's commitment to developing solutions that can result in better care and better cost management, starting in the hospital and moving beyond the hospital in the future," said Tom Watlington, Sotera Wireless chief executive officer.
The FDA-approved ViSi Mobile System continuously monitors all core patient vital signs --blood pressure, heart rate or pulse rate, electrocardiogram (ECG) or heart rhythm, blood oxygenation level, respiration rate and skin temperature – with accuracy typically found in intensive care units. Proprietary technology transmits vital sign data to remote viewing or notification devices that clinicians can monitor. A major component of the ViSi Mobile System is an advanced alarm management capability that notifies clinicians to unfavorable changes in a patient's condition, allowing for early intervention if needed.
The ViSi Mobile System is currently intended for general medical/surgical floor hospital patients. In the future its use will be expanded to cover higher acuity areas inside the hospital as well as outpatient areas, such as post-discharge monitoring.
