New Idaho Online Public High School Opens Doors with Technical and Specialty Trade Training
Idaho College and Career Readiness Academy enrollment is still open for new students
MERIDIAN, Idaho, Aug. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A new online school providing pathways for students seeking technical and specialty trade job skills opens its doors this month. The Idaho College and Career Readiness Academy (IDCCRA) is the state's first of-its-kind, online public charter school that offers students tuition-free, individualized learning full-time online, with four years of occupational training in an industry strand of their choice.
IDCCRA is tuition-free and available to students in grades 9-11 across the state of Idaho. Students choose between four pathways—Business, Manufacturing, Web Design and Healthcare—building occupational skills that can transfer to a job opportunity or technical college while pursuing a high school diploma.
Similar to any first day of school but all online, IDCCRA students will log in to meet virtually with Idaho-credentialed teachers, explore coursework and learn how to manage time and coursework. In addition to industry-focused curriculum, IDCCRA students work with an Individualized Learning Plan and K12's nationally-acclaimed, award-winning academic curriculum and learning programs through an online platform. All students will take a full year of exploratory Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses including a career exploration component.
IDCCRA teachers provide a student-centered learning experience, offering instruction and support, one-on-one guidance, and regular interaction with students and parents via an online classroom, email, phone or face-to-face meetings.
"Our new, innovative digital learning model at IDCCRA will expand opportunities for students all over Idaho, helping them prepare for life after high school," said Monti Pittman, IDCCRA Head of School. "Whether they go directly into the workplace or pursue college, IDCCRA's skill training is a powerful opportunity for these students to start off with the foundational skills to be successful."
IDCCRA is still enrolling for the 2014-2015 school year and Idaho families are invited to learn more about online education by signing up for in-person and online information sessions being held across the state throughout summer and fall.
