New Glass Hardener Technology from Japan Shatters the Fragility of Glass
OSAKA, Japan, Feb. 28, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- As glass is brittle, who hasn't accidentally cracked or broken glass? Fortunately, the centuries of glass being fragile has come to an end with Dglass Coat, a new glass hardening product from Japan that makes any glass it is applied to much stronger. Based on technology developed for use in bullet proof vests, when applied to glass, it creates protective layers that makes any glass far less likely to crack, scratch or suffer other damage.
How It Works
Dglass Coat is a liquid containing nano-sized particles. When applied to glass, including touch screens, it quickly hardens and forms a layer of glass that matches the surface contours at a microscopic level. This very fine coating of even the tiniest invisible imperfections on the protected surface greatly increases the strength of the hardener and makes it possible to apply added coats for even greater toughness. This is in contrast to other glass protectors that only create a layer that rests above the contours of the glass and are not nearly as strong.
As layers formed by Dglass Coat are only 0.2 ~ 0.3 micrometers thick, they are undetectable to the touch and will not affect the operation of touch screen devices. Furthermore, being inorganic, they are not affected by the sun's rays and will last for the life of the glass.
Its Uses
A few layers of Dglass Coat can be applied in minutes and take effect almost immediately. While it can be used to protect any glass product, its initial use is expected to be primarily as screen protection for phones and tablets.
As one of its developers stated, "While glass has been breaking for a long time, the ability of Dglass Coat to solve a very modern problem of cracked and damaged touch screens in today's world is likely to be the use most people will find most appealing."
About Dglass Coat
Dglass Coat was developed over ten years using Nobel Prize winning technology. It has only recently been marketed outside of Japan. New versions of the product, to include a coating for cars, will be released soon. Video of tests proving its strength and ease of application can be found below.
