WASHINGTON, Sept. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- New Futures, a nonprofit organization that provides scholarships, career education services and mentoring to low-income young people pursuing Career and Technical Education (CTE) in the Washington, D.C., region, has named Kris Collo, Founder, CEO & President of MicroPact Inc., to the organization's Board of Directors.
New Futures awards scholarships to students who apply for shorter-term post-secondary educations, such as associate's degrees or vocational certificates. These degrees require less time and money to obtain, increasing the likelihood that the students will complete their education programs and secure a professionally-satisfying and well-paying job. New Futures also educates DC-area youth about local, in-demand jobs and how to obtain them.
"We are thrilled to have Kris join our Board of Directors," said New Futures Board Chair Greg Banks. "Kris has a formidable business acumen and a deep commitment to social justice. We are extremely lucky to have someone as talented and passionate as Kris to join us in our mission."
New Futures has awarded millions of dollars in scholarships to hundreds of underserved-yet-motivated low-income young people – and they are succeeding. Scholars complete their education programs at a rate of 68% – a remarkably high success rate when compared with graduation rates for students from similar economic and social backgrounds.
"I am honored to join the Board of Directors for New Futures, and I look forward to supporting the vital mission that the organization pursues with such dedication and commitment," said Kris Collo, Founder, President & CEO of MicroPact. "New Futures is truly providing opportunities for bright and often very entrepreneurial young men and women in our communities that might not otherwise have access to the resources they need to pursue their dreams."
